O PDT confirmou hoje a candidatura de Ciro Gomes à Presidência da República, na convenção nacional que reuniu filiados do partido. “Ciro tem a responsabilidade de ser a síntese do Brasil soberano, mais justo e mais soberano”, afirmou o presidente do PDT, Carlos Lupi.
A convenção reuniu integrantes do Diretório Nacional e do Conselho Político, representantes de movimentos sociais vinculados ao partido, senadores, deputados federais e estaduais, delegados e presidentes das comissões provisórias.
O partido não definiu o candidato a vice-presidente nem as demais legendas que integrarão a chapa de Ciro Gomes.
A expectativa da cúpula do PDT é que a eleição presidencial alavanque o partido nos estados. Lupi tem falado em eleger este ano uma bancada de pelo menos 40 deputados federais. Atualmente o partido tem 19 deputados federais e três senadores.
Até agora, o PDT tem oito nomes para disputar os governos estaduais: Waldez Góes (AP), Lígia Feliciano (PB), Carlos Eduardo Alves (RN), Jairo Jorge (RS), Pedro Fernandes (RJ), Acir Gurgacz (RO), Odilon de Oliveira (MS) e Osmar Dias (PR).
Perfil
Esta é a terceira vez que Ciro Gomes será candidato à Presidência da República: em 1998 e 2002, ele concorreu pelo PPS. Natural de Pindamonhangaba (SP), construiu sua carreira política no Ceará, onde foi prefeito de Fortaleza, eleito em 1988, e governador do estado, eleito em 1990. Renunciou ao cargo de governador, em 1994, para assumir o Ministério da Fazenda, no governo Itamar Franco (1992-1994), por indicação do PSDB, seu partido na época.
Ciro Gomes foi ministro da Integração Nacional de 2003 a 2006, no governo do ex-presidente Lula, e tocou o projeto de Transposição do Rio São Francisco. Deixou a Esplanada dos Ministérios para concorrer a deputado federal e foi eleito. Também exerceu dois mandatos de deputado estadual no Ceará. Tem 60 anos e quatro filho.
