Com a crise de abastecimento causada pelos protestos dos caminhoneiros, o mercado financeiro reduziu a projeção para o crescimento da economia e aumentou a estimativa de inflação.
De acordo com o Boletim Focus, publicação na internet divulgada todas as semanas pelo Banco Central (BC), a projeção para a expansão do Produto Interno Bruto (PIB) – soma de todos os bens e serviços produzidos no país – passou de 2,50% para 2,37%. Essa foi a quarta redução consecutiva. Para 2019, a previsão permanece em 3%.
Além disso, a estimativa para o Índice Nacional de Preços ao Consumidor Amplo (IPCA) subiu de 3,50% para 3,60%, neste ano. Para 2019, a projeção foi ajustada de 4,01% para 4%.
Mesmo assim, a expectativa para a inflação permanece abaixo da meta, que é 4,5% neste ano, com limite inferior de 3% e superior de 6%. Para 2019, a meta é 4,25%, com intervalo de tolerância entre 2,75% e 5,75%.
Taxa básica de juros
Para alcançar a meta, o BC usa como principal instrumento a taxa básica de juros, a Selic, atualmente em 6,50% ao ano. Quando o Comitê de Política Monetária (Copom) do BC aumenta a Selic, o objetivo é conter a demanda aquecida, e isso causa reflexos nos preços, porque os juros mais altos encarecem o crédito e estimulam a poupança.
Quando o Copom diminui os juros básicos, a tendência é que o crédito fique mais barato, com incentivo à produção e ao consumo, reduzindo o controle da inflação. Para cortar a Selic, o BC precisa estar seguro de que os preços estão sob controle e não correm risco de subir.
Para o mercado, a Selic deve permanecer em 6,50% ao ano até o fim de 2018 e subir ao longo de 2019, encerrando o período em 8% ao ano.

A previsão para a cotação do dólar ao final do ano subiu de R$ 3,43 para R$ 3,48. Para o fim de 2019, passou de R$ 3,45 para R$ 3,47.
