Monteiro é o atual diretor executivo da Área Financeira e de Relacionamento com Investidores. Chegou à Petrobras junto com ex-presidente Aldemir Bendine, nomeado pela então presidente Dilma Rousseff.
Investigado pela Lava-Jato, Bendine perdeu o cargo, mas Ivan Monteiro permaneceu e trabalhou durante os dois últimos anos ao lado de Pedro Parente. Quando Bendine foi presidente do Banco do Brasil (BB), ele ocupou a vice-presidencia de Gestão Financeira e de Relações com Investidores de 2009 a 2015. No BB, já havia ocupado cargos de gerente executivo da Diretoria Internacional, superintendente comercial, gerente geral nas agências em Portugal e Nova York e diretor comercial. Antes de ir para a Petrobras e o Banco do Brasil, sempre atuou como executivo de diversas instituições no mercado financeiro.
