A economia caiu no segundo trimestre deste ano. O Índice de Atividade Econômica do Banco Central (IBC-Br) dessazonalizado (ajustado para o período) apresentou queda de 0,99% no segundo trimestre, comparado com o período de janeiro a março deste ano.
A contração ocorreu no período da greve dos caminhoneiros, iniciada no fim de maio e encerrada no início de junho.
A greve impactou a economia, gerando uma crise de desabastecimento no país. Em junho, o ministro da Fazenda, Eduardo Guardia, afirmou que impacto da paralisação na economia seria de R$ 15 bilhões, equivalentes a 0,2% do Produto Interno Bruto (PIB, a soma das riquezas produzidas no país).
No primeiro trimestre, de acordo com dados atualizados pelo BC, houve crescimento de 0,2%, na comparação com o período de outubro a dezembro de 2017.
De janeiro a junho deste ano, houve crescimento de 0,89% (sem ajustes), na comparação com o primeiro semestre de 2017. Em 12 meses, a expansão chegou a 1,3%.
Em junho, o IBC-Br registrou crescimento de 3,29% na comparação com maio (dado dessazonalizado). Na comparação com o mesmo mês de 2017, o crescimento ficou em 1,82%.
O IBC-Br é uma forma de avaliar a evolução da atividade econômica brasileira e ajuda o BC a tomar decisões sobre a taxa básica de juros, a Selic.
O índice incorpora informações sobre o nível de atividade dos três setores da economia: indústria, comércio e serviços e agropecuária, além do volume de impostos.
No entanto, o indicador oficial sobre o desempenho da economia é o Produto Interno Bruto (PIB), calculado pelo Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE).
